The “longest” Half Marathon I have run so far; there were mistakes made on the USAT&F Certified course that resulted in a longer than 13.1 mile Half Marathon. The stats below are from my Garmin 305 as I am not sure yet what my “adjusted” times will be from the race directors
This on top of a pile of mistakes I made for this race; I volunteered at the expo for about 6 hours de day before race, I didn’t do my normal carb load the night before, I bought a new pair of running shorts at the expo and wore them without the tight long underwear that I normally wear, I brought my own bottle of water and didn’t make any of the water stops. But the biggest mistake of all…I wore a new pair of running shoes that I have never used before! racing flats at that!!! oh how a paid for that! I was in so much pain! I quickly realized that racing flats are not for me, I need more cushioning for my already painful feet!
My thoughts of a PR were vanished really fast when I started to experience more an more pain from the chaffing between my legs (from not wearing the protective long underwear) my feet were just about to give up…and I think for the first time I hit the “wall” from not having enough fuel in me (the gel that I took half way the race was not enough) I finished the race, I don’t know how but I did! (tears and all, I didn’t care)
I Have learned my lesson though, I am not longer going to doubt myself for preparing for a race and training by “the book”, all thoughts of being obsessive on the details are now gone.

galmecoin.motionbased.com I started running in the beginning of 2007, by the end of that year I had done 14 races, mostly 5 mile and 5 K race runs, the longest race run was a 12 K. My training log stats come mostly from my Garmin Forerunner 305 which I use while working out or racing My main goal this year: I am running my first marathon! The Chicago Marathon 10-12-08!
